estou a tentar recuperar um ficheiro de um servidor que usa o SFTP (em oposição ao FTPS) que usa o Java. Como posso fazer isto?

Outra opção é considerar olhar para a bibliotecaJSch . JSch parece ser a biblioteca preferida para alguns grandes projetos de código aberto, incluindo Eclipse, Ant e Apache Commons HttpClient, entre outros.
Ele suporta tanto logins baseados em usuários/pass e certificados, bem como toda uma série de outras características saborosas SSH2.
Aqui está um simples ficheiro remoto a recuperar sobre o SFTP. O tratamento de erros é deixado como exercício para o leitor: -)

Uma boa abstracção no topo do Jsch é o Apache commons-vfs que oferece uma API virtual do sistema de ficheiros que torna o acesso e a escrita de ficheiros SFTP quase transparentes. Funcionou bem para nós.

Existe uma boa comparação das 3 bibliotecas Java maduras para SFTP: Commons VFS, SSHJ e JSch
Para resumir, o SSHJ tem a API mais clara e é o melhor deles se não precisar de outros apoios de armazenamento fornecidos pelo Commons VFS.Aqui está o exemplo sshj editado de github:

Andy, para apagar o ficheiro no sistema remoto, tem de usar (channelExec) o JSch e passar comandos unix/linux para o apagar.

Embora as respostas acima tenham sido muito úteis, passei um dia para fazê-las funcionar, enfrentando várias exceções como "canal quebrado", "chave rsa desconhecida" e "pacote corrupto".

Eu uso Esta API SFTP chamada Zehon, é ótimo, tão fácil de usar com um monte de código de amostra. Aqui está o site http://www.zehon.com
A melhor solução que encontrei éParamiko . Há uma versão Java.
